"I hadn't been on island long enough to judge...."
"Luigi St.Omer who is on island taking part...." ---------------------------------------------------------
I must admit; English with its ever changing rules just isn't my cup of tea; I am much more comfortable speaking creole. So the little bit of English I learnt at the Monchy school back in the 1960's & 70's means a lot to me. I still try to speak it and write it the way I was taught; but lately, I have been noticing change, namely, any sentence that involve THE island (see the two sentences above).
Everything I read says 'on island' instead of The island. And even smart people, like Ms Gonzales, are using this 'on island' thing. Since I'm still back in the 60's, is this something I should be adopting or is it wrong?
To 5:09 AM above ... this is the "journalism" St Lucian style. What do you know? What do I know?!
I am always of the impression that The Voice newspaper has NO EDITOR because sub-standard English at that newspaper is the order of the day. The reporters/journalists write as they speak - badly!! I tell you, it is painful at times to read their stories, with bad grammar, bad spelling - in this day and age of technology where grammar, spell check, predictive text and sentence formatting is offered digitally. Makes you wonder.
5:09 AM, stay as sweet as you are "on THE island" - do not adopt anything wrong.
....those bitches above had to get their egos massaged!..completely ignoring the call for improvement in the way that the people in the PUBLIC Service perform their duties.

This has been the case forever, unless the public stand up and say 'enough is enough' nothing will change, sadly.
