You ask "Why our low growth in tourism"? well the answer is simple;
with a dumb Minister of Tourism like you have presently, what more did you expect?
He is a square peg in a round hole and either have no clue or too damn lazy to work long hours and hard enough to get things moving.
This is the legacy of this present (hic) government. HE SHOULD BE FIRED.

Developmentally, Saint Lucia will be treading water at best for some years to come. This is simply because the fuddy-duddy doting, dotish gray-haired brain-fogged voters within the parties who select party leaders and candidates, and the voters on the outside as the general electorate who vote for their selectees are largely backward people.

They vote simple on the bases of three criteria not in that order of course: 1) You are from the area; 2) You belong the party that they or the family has been voting for since they know themselves, for it is like a religion; 3) You are of a lighter skin colour, as that makes you more appealing as being especially gifted and intelligent, and of superior moral character.

That said up there does not sit well with those who refuse to call a spade a spade. Nonetheless, however unpalatable this is, ignoring the truth will not change the price of coffee. We are just going to be condemned to continue as we have done in the past. The electorate and worse yet, the candidates that voters send to Saint Lucia's parliament are not yet ready for prime time.

Our people refuse to read past their last formal exams. After that, all books are closed. No refresher courses and no seminars are entertained. Newspaper readership is pathetically low. Most of all, as a teacher I know that our education system does not develop, nor does it encourage or deliver citizens who have a world view.

To conclude, it would not at all be surprising that given the formative educational settings of the PM and Minister of Tourism, neither would know key elements of their work -- as firsthand knowledge.

Notwithstanding all the hype, the PM is still a person limited and dedicated just to one discipline, which is law. Little wonder that too often, he stands out more often than not, like an advertisement -- a veritable cardboard cut-out marketing character, or an image without depth.

A 845 - he is devoted to the law; mainly the practice of avoiding it!
