St Lucia does not NEED another hotel/resort ... what St Lucia NEEDS are agricultural, ecological, and environmental outlets ... what else can say??

Enough is enough!! I always maintain my stance, that in the event of some kind of disaster (financial or natural), we cannot eat tourism, but agriculture and ecology bounces back much faster, and is far more sustainable than tourism.

St Lucia needs is to make its own money to go around and come around. We need to grow more, make more, sell more, export more ... then we can advertise with pride "Made in St Lucia".

That is MY dream for St Lucia - not more hotels!!!

i agree 100% "Armchair" but for now no gov is pushing agriculture although we are getting tiny assistance from Taiwan..which is a good thing but we need to find good use for our mangoes, breadfruit, bananas,guavas..these fruits has multiple uses..guava is nutritious..we dont even know that..

But the reality is tourism is what they pushing.. we have to increase our hotel stock ..more rooms ..with a consistent airlift does go along way..BUT THE NEW HOTEL DEVELOPMENS ANNOUCED ARENT REALLY NEW EXCEPT FOR-FREEDOM BAY.. so here is my list of potential NEW HOTEL Construction in 2013:

1-Calabash Cove hotel expansion
2-Sandals grande expansion
3-Landingslu hotel expansion
4-Marquis golf resort ?
5-Drake Marina Hotel ????
6- Le Paradis redevelopment ???

Walk around Rodney Bay and the derth of tourists is alarming, plus most of these proposals will be almost self sufficient, so what happens to local businesses. The idea that they can also have selective beaches precludes local people yet again from being to access those areas. What about Agroproccessing, e.g. all the fruit that is wasted for example, then what is sent abroad is returned at high prices + vat for the supermarkets to sell; its full of sugar and other less healthy stuff, and diabetes in St. Lucia is alarming.
I agree wholeheartedly with the 1st letter, and I understnd it is a rare event with the excisting hotels to have more than 60% occupancy, so this will get worse.
If you want to be Independant, and not keep expecting other countries to provide then utilise what is made and grown locally, provide canning factories, have your own milk herds, the lsit is endless and the apathy towards these initiatives is shocking.
