WALCOTT SPEAKS OUT

Tell them Dr. Walcott, only backward countries and moronic cultures do not have museums.

You see, our so-called elite believe that culture is manifested only in song and dance, captured in the broken French that we speak. So much is made Creole Day that it has become the 'be all and end all' Saint Lucian culture.

Unfortunately, we have been conditioned from our who is who in our high places, to highlight mainly creole.

This however, minimizes literature, and most importantly, what drives creativity and innovation in our culture, which is mostly responsible for facilitating our ability to survive and excel as a people, namely, our cultural assumptions.

He should speak out more often.

Speak mr. WAcott we all are listening. Do not be afraid to hit some nerves, because the masses will surely defend you. Maybe you could form your own political party to set us on the right footing. Tired of the same O same O.

But will "THEY" listen? Even to Walcott?

My fellow "creative industrialists" - rally together, as ONE VOICE ... and get "THEM" to listen!!

It can be done, because we have the resources: song, dance, spoken word, paintings!!

I SHARE HIS COMMENTS FULLY. It is sad that with such recognition for the country by such an internationally esteemed individual, successive Governments did not take time to consult with him.

Sad for St.Lucia.

With so many morons as voted representatives, those idiots can't appreciate anything good. It is like casting pearls before swine.

See who there role models and heroes are? Ziggy Marley, and the visiting scum from Jamaica's ghettos.

And our very many local scumbags in the so-called entertainment industries ... radio and DJs ... are happy to exploit for profit, the army of the other morons in the population.

John Compton fathered it. Saint Lucia is an idiot nation.

One way forward is for the artistes to organize a committee to raise fund locally and internationally for this museum or theatre in honour of Derek Walcott. I am certain Mr. Walcott would lend his name to such an effort. That committee should do the costing for such a museum, raise half the funds and asks government to put the other half. If that was done five years ago, I am sure we would be almost there. So, lets start moving.

You couldn't have said it better! St.Lucian society has become a LOW ESTEEMED society that even the Garbage from the Slums of Jamaica and the Ghettos of America have become their praise. Like DW says it really is shamefull the course this country is taking. St.Lucia needs to stop WHORING herself to foreigners manipulations and start being MORE of an ESTEEMED and PROUD nation. First, by doing that HONOR and APRRECIATE your talent from within!

Derek Walcott has always been a nasty ass. Ever since his days at SMC where he said he eventually taught ...Geography... with his squash in hand. Why did he not build a theatre in St.Lucia with some of the funds from his Nobel Prize? Like Dunstan St.Omer..a drunkard.. DW is the actual whore.

Unfortunately the political liberal elites who run our countries do not care what Walcott says.

As long as they keep feeding their faces and living off the people and gain more wealth and influence like Kenny and Phillip - they will treat Walcott as just a doddering old fool who cannot affect their lives one way or another.

His words are water off a ducks back for them and the hacks in the Labour Party.

And I sorry for the deluded one above who says that the 'masses' are behind Walcott. Nonsense!

The masses are only useful as tools for the ruling liberals class with their promises of freeness. Walcott promises the 'masses' nothing so they do not have one iota of interest.

Nice for Walcott to talk but will not change the price of a pint of milk with VAT on it.

Then the other clown with " we have song, dance, paintings - whatever". Crap. You need MONEY to pay for your song, dance, etc and the liberals elites like Obama, Kenny, Portia, etc have all raped the national treasuries and undermined the fundameltal strengths of our societies for their own power and money and to paly golf and go for honeymoons at sandals and to holiday in Hawaii.

So there is no money for your song and dance because we are now a liberal/socialist world of paupers except for the liberal elite class.

time to wake up to the big lie by these anansis.

Old, yes. But Are you senile too?

Dr. Walcott did not want to get into bad trouble.

Thereore, what Dr. Walcott did not add was that a richer culture with institutions such as museums makes for a society with:

a) more opportunities,

b) greater dynamism, and

c)the potential for change.

Aimless, stagnant, backward, and country-bookie-led Saint Lucia is in dire need of a breath of fresh air.

Sex, country and western music, and 'winding' are the only so called cultural and arts events that the majority support. Its ignornance and lack of desire that keeps the country where it is. On top of that drinking to excess helps to keep the ball rolling. What Dr. Walcott says is true, but I believe that a few years ago the UWP administration gave Dr. Walcott a substantial amount of money to put on a play, to date that hasn't happenned, that i am aware of; where are those finances now?

Anonymous said...

Question: Where is our actors guild or the equivalent?

I agree, St. Lucia is appearing to be from what I am observing a truly bookie country.

But on another note, if this blogger is right, where is the money that was given to the man by the UWP?

But worse the UWP Government never made the man to account for our Lucian monies? Very strange indeed.
