Even Her Excellency, Dame Pearlette Louisy, is of the perception that the remedy for low visitor arrivals is "to increase St.Lucia's visibility in the international market"; eventhough we are currently advertising more than any other tourist destination in the region.

Maybe someone should tell the Governor General that advertising can only take us so far; the rest is up to us. It is in the hand of every St.Lucian, including the government, to make St.Lucia the kind of place that visitors would love to RETURN to. And that advertising cannot buy.

The Throne Speech is basically written by the PM and read by the GG.

to anon.. jan-8 5:37am.. u def right about adverts can only go so far.... but we will not see every individual driven to customer service as to the tourist who visit our shores.. thats wishful thinking and alot of gov ppl tend to say that rubbish at times.. we just have to try to attract a couple high end resorts and name brand ones and adventure tours esp. a reasonably sized resort or private investment in a theme park that is absent in the caribbean islands except for the jamaican and guyana with small
waterparks.

Also important is uplifting the city centres and our villages which looks like ghettos we cannot promote village tourism and the place does look authentic but also looks like some slums in africa as well we have to fix the streets paint the villages with the residents participating in pushing that tourism venture ....FIRST START WITH CASTRIES IT NEEDS MAJOR RENOVATION ESP THOSE UGLY CDCs transform the town all visitors like to visit the city scopes they get a feel of what the country is like ...

well i think every stlucian sees the direction DR. K.A is taking with taiwan.. in a way i do agree in retaining taiwan over rep of CHINA.I never thought i would have said so b4.. but due to the current joblessness of the country we know the china's policy to assist countries is by using their ppl to build or engage the projects CHINA finances be it through grants or even loans..A case in point is the NEW AIRPORT TERMINAL OF ANTIGUA which just started..

Taiwan doesn't have that policy so i believe DR.K.A will go with taiwan. Its just sad that apart from CHINA/TAIWAN & European Union & to a small extent VENEZUELA there isnt much foreign aid coming into the region.. What about the other embassies stationed in SLU.. how can we get financial support from them such as mexico,sweden/denmark coalition consulate even brazil ..are there policies in place that these countries are not here to help us financially in anyway...?

It would be a great move if Kenny kept Taiwan, the Chinese only want to control, to take over the world. Saint Lucians on the whole prefer Taiwan.

"... Saint Lucians on the whole prefer Taiwan".

Kenny and his SLP painted an ugly picture of Taiwan before the election; now they are looking for ways to back-peddle.

It only goes to show that King was right all along.

King was never right...King sang for his millions now he is sitting comfortably on those dollars. Hope the UWP stalwarts can see past the mess of the former UWP administration and bring in fresh, intelligent and qualified persons to take the party to success.

A strong UWP will consist of the following persons:
1.Dr. Gail Rigobert
2.Sarah Beaubren
3.Guy Mayers (although he would have to work XTRA hard to win Pip)
4.Guy Joseph(only if he wishes to change his moral stance especially about women. Not only that but there is no talk about Mangal anymore)
5.Dr. Ubaldus Raymond (since it appears that such a qualified Economist is being sidelined by the Kenny administration - although it may be too early to make such an assertion)
6.Dr. Long (since it appears that a qualified medical doctor is also being sidelined by the SLP administration - although it maybe to early to make such assertions).
7.Allen Chastanet (hope he has the mental and physical fortitude to engage in such a fight again)
8.Dr. Allison Plummer (a true professional by all definitions)
9.Dr. Claudius Preville
10.Dr. Robert Lewis (especially if he is not made leader of the SLP after Kenny vacates his position as leader)
11. Janine Compton
12. Ausbert D'Auverne
13.Dr. Stephen King (if we can get another Pathologist within 5 years, and have him to run the Castries Central seat)
The other 3 are still at large.

Man, the SLP will have some stiff competition if that Configuration can happen. I see the UWP winning the next election easily if those 13 persons can form the new UWP.

SLP beware take care of what you have for if you do not your home will eventually become dysfunctional.

anonymous KEEP DREAMING ... half of the possible uwp future candidates are basically slp party members... COME WITH A CLEANER NEW SLATE OF UWP ..where would u find them is the biggest ???? these political parties dont have the fortitude to dismantle the old to bring in the new so uwp will bank on the ignorance of ppl in the next election. good luck ..YEA RIGHT.. uwp done until after a 2nd term under slp... then maybe ...

Okay, we can stay with the Taiwanese but they need to finance a couple major projects for us: (i) the Castries-Vieux Fort Tunnel-Highway or a Light Rail system and (ii) 150-200 miles of well-made and safe mountain highways throughout the island. These two essentials would immediately draw investors to our shores and create thousands of jobs.
Of course, we must also complete redeveloping HIA and our Soufriere geothermal energy project.

You surround the Parliament with heavy ammunition; you take over the Radio and Television stations; you announce to the public that the old government has been disolved and your new 13 persons government is now in control.

It's that easy. Good luck.

Blogger @ 5:16AM, St Lucia is not a beggar: this is about politics not begging; but at least St Lucia should ask for what we really need and not just accept more of the little handouts they have given us in the past.

Here's the official STATEMENT FROM THE TAIWANESE EMBASSY Jan.8,2012:
"Republic of China, also expressed his continued support to the social and economic development in St. Lucia, and exchanged views with Prime Minister Anthony and Minister Baptiste regarding the priority of the projects of the new government and issues of mutual concern."

"Minister Yang assured the Prime Minister of Taiwan’s sincerity and will do its utmost within its capabilities to cooperate with St. Lucia, and trusted that Taiwan and St. Lucia will remain good partners for the benefit of their peoples."

"Minister Yang also invited the Prime Minister to provide the Republic of China (Taiwan) with his new government’s national development plan, itemized and prioritized, for further discussion."
