What’s The IMF Anyway?

All well and good but you never indicated the process by which countries can access such funds. I for one believe that this is the missing part to fully understanding the IMF and its functions.
Before reading about the IMF, read about banks and lending first, then development banks, central banks, bonds and then sovereign debt -- in that order. Only then, will the "bank of last resort", and the IMF/World Bank relationship begin to make real sense. Fact sheets do not spell out detailed mechanics.
