No doubt this school has made a sterling contribution to the development of Saint Lucia by the number of outstanding citizens that have passed through its doors.
I remember not having passed for the Saint Mary's college back in '76 and I was considered a very good student. It was very competitive to get a place at Saint Mary's back then. You either had to be brilliant or have well connected parents or both.
However, at that time the SDA Academy had to give priority to the childeren of church members and those of non-members were entertained if space was left. I got one of these "PENDING" results back then but it never materialized. Needless to say I was devastated.
I never abandoned trying to lift myself by my own boot straps. I was fortunate t enter the teaching profession after primary school and used the inservice program back then to educate myself. Of course City & Guilds, and other correspondence programs helped plenty got my G.C.Es on my own and got a great opportunity to go to university.
Today's children have it made. It is only my generation and those before that can bring that message home to them. Hats off to the parents who show iniitative in the education of their children.
I hope the government and people of Saint Lucia show their appreciation for the SDA Academy for their contribution to the country's development. CONGRATULATIONS SDA ACADEMY!!!

In the second paragraph I meant to say '67. That was clearly an error in transposition
