Robbery Underscores Hospitals’ Lack of Security

The is an issue of security everywhere on the island. There is a numbing of the population cowed in fear by who they themselves have elected as legislators and Members of Parliament. A fish rots from its head. And when certain prominent members of government a little more than foxes guarding the chicken house, people throw up their hands. The unelected crooks as asking them to do so with a frightening strike rate in the Vieux Fort Hospital and medical school area.
One medical student was held up with a knife to her throat and robbed of her possessions some time in the last two weeks one night. The very next day she took off on a plane leaving the island and this little nasty experience behind her.
One would have expected some small comfort with the police indicating a focus on the area with a more concerted effort on frequency of patrols after dark in particular. But we cannot dare hold our breath on this one.
This robber must have known some of the operations of the hospital. The robbers are becoming more desperate. This raises the question of our readiness for free movement of people among the OECS and Caricom in general.
We will never be ready for this nightmare. Benefit/cost studies have not been made of this oncoming nightmare. These islands are not contiguous and our surveillance laws and practices are thin. That is where the economies of scale will really show up. Caribbean miscreants will now be able to operate with much lowered cost per heist, rub-out, or per 'contract'.
Is Vieux Fort becoming the rottenest place in St.Lucia? Last month it was the robbery and murder of that British couple, now it is in a Hospital. Is any place safe in Vieux Fort? Is Kenny too soft on crime?
How can such a robbrey happen in a hospital like that? You cannot tell me there can be such a large amount of cash in a hospital office. What happened to their sefe where the money could be locked away. Or better still, at the end of the working day the takings for the day should have been deposited into the bank's night ssfe. No one was reported hurt!!! FISHY! FISHY! FISHY

In the prime minister's constituency? Really? Who is minding the shop then?
