The Anti-Democratic Stance by CARICOM

CARICOM prime ministers cannot ever be trusted to do the right thing. Look at how the entire integration movement is flawed and moribund from inception. It was just about old pals giving each other pats on the back for having conjured a wonderfully flawed vision.

What more cogent testimony do we need to see through the farce in its greater deterioration stages, being used by these ministers in those HOG meetings as recreational downtime activities? unfortunately, the joke is on the foolish hoodwinked voters who keep on voting these majority grey-haired jokers repeatedly into office.

Look at LIAT. These jokers are running an airline and none of them has one blinking clue how to make it operate efficiently. However can any of these cardboard one-sided characters who can hardly do anything right within their own countries, do better when the situation warrants knowledge, expertise, judgement, and a vision?

Neither has any of those characteristics. Their poorly-trained advisors do not have anything to complement the canyons of ignorance either.

All around, we see a comedy of errors. CARICOM is just going through the motions, while continuously, the regional leaders do a fancy minuet around the critical issues.

Strike up the band! We need a another round! Let's do this one in honour of the dead. Triage and unplug those already on life-support. This time, what about the quick-step for a change?

Well, I see they had to bring in some experts for a change. Good. It's kind of late though. Size of market, with a monopoly and all that does not ensure success. LIAT has no competition. It has the entire market. It is still making a loss. Look at Kodak. It was number 1 in the film industry. We hardly hear about it anymore.

This only shows that CARICOM is not a democratically inspired body. That is so plain and simple to see. As principles and a resolve to follow strictly democratic principles, were not enshrined or spelt out plainly in the original agreement, that democratic element was NEVER considered important by the framers.

If it is not there, no one can refer to anyone as not working towards or abiding by the fundamental democratic principles.

It is just like the loose and flawed terms of reference given to the constitutional reform group slated to be debated in May this year.

The fault therefore lies with the starters CARICOM.

The culture and the tone of any organization is put in place by those who start it. It was darn well myopic of Barrow et al. to have constructed CARICOM as they did.

When you don't know where you are going any road will do. But chances are, you will not like it when you arrive at the unplanned destination. It may be Hell.
